Kembla History
Kembla Watertech Pty Ltd is a specialised pipeline and access chamber rehabilitation contractor with over 18 years experience in Australia and overseas, however this was not always the case.
The company started business as Kembla Constructions Pty Ltd operating out of offices in Wollongong. In 1993 the volume of work was such that the company relocated to offices in Sydney and, in 2000, changed its name to Kembla Watertech Pty Ltd. As testament to the great company culture and success, it is interesting to note that many long-term employees still make the long commute to work each day from the Wollongong area.
When Chris Meredith, Managing Director and sole shareholder, was asked about the beginnings of his company, he said “It was back in 1992 when a fold and formed lining system called Ex Method first came to my attention. I could see the potential for its use in Australia and, after signing a licence agreement with the Japanese owners of the technology, we installed the first Ex lining into a 150mm sewer in Corrimal in the south of Sydney on 2nd June 1993. 15 years later, I sent a CCTV survey crew back to the same pipe to check on the condition of the lining. I was happy, but not surprised, to be able to say that we found it in as good condition as the day it was installed.”
In conjunction with Vinidex – the sole supplier of Ex pipe to Kembla Watertech – the materials used and installation processes have been refined over time specifically to suit Australian conditions. Kembla and the Ex lining system have continued to grow to the point where thousands of kilometers have now been installed in Australia.
Despite the ongoing success of the Ex Method, Kembla did not rest on its laurels. Instead, the company took a leading role in the development of the Australian trenchless technology industry with a number of significant milestones reached over the last 18 years, including being awarded the largest single sewer reticulation contract ever let in Australia. Kembla Watertech offers clients a suite of solutions to best suit each project, with manhole rehabilitation, junction seals, patches, large diameter relining and pipe bursting just to name a few.
Kembla Watertech is proud of its history, growth and reputation in conjunction with the critical role it has played in the development and support of the Australian trenchless technology industry.
