Civil Open Cut, Dig & Relay

Description of Process
Kembla operates its own water crews skilled in all aspects of water main construction. Part of this capability includes construction of water mains using traditional open cut and lift & relay methods.

Typical Applications
Although it is our preference to use the existing water main and pipe burst, this is not always possible.

Applications of Open Cut construction are generally a new water main or a link between 2 existing mains. Additionally, where a new alignment is required open cut is also used.

Lift & Relay on the other hand is generally used where pipe bursting is not advantageous and the existing alignment will be used.

Installation
Kembla’s experienced designers will assess the available alignments, seek approval from the client and design the water main in accordance with the scope. Using an approved design, the water main crew will than construct the new main, perform all tests to verify the integrity and water quality of the new main prior to connecting it to the water main network. Once live, the services will be transferred from the existing main to the new main.

In the case of Lift & Relay the same process is followed with the exception of temporary services being installed to ensure all residents have water supplied to their homes.

Available Sizes
The full range of pipe sizes can be constructed using this method.

Materials
A full range of pipe materials can be used with both of these construction methods.
