Slip Lining
Description of Process
Slip Lining is a trenchless technique used to construct a new pipeline of smaller diameter within an existing pipeline. Kembla’s skilled water main and civil construction crews have successfully undertaken many slip lining projects.
Typical Applications
Slip Lining is generally used where a smaller diameter pipeline can be used to replace an existing pipeline to reduce the cost and disruption of traditional replacement methods.
Installation
Slip lining requires access to both ends of the pipeline being replaced. At one end a winch is setup with the winch cable running through the host pipe to the opposite end of the pipeline.
The new pipe string is assembled at the other end and then pulled into position using the pipe winch or alternatively pipe bursting equipment can be used instead of a winch.
The annulus can then be grouted if required by the project specification.
Available Sizes
A large range of pipe sizes can be constructed using this method.
Materials
Slip Lining generally uses HDPE pipe in the smaller diameters in the form of a welded string or long coil. However, any pipe material with restrained joints can be used.
